LOST Season 4 Finale

Although I have NINE MONTHS before season 4 of LOST airs, I thought I would jot down some of my thoughts before they end up in the abyss of my brain, never to be found again. Many of these observations have been "borrowed" from various lost forums, where people who share my sad addiction to this show congregate. Of course I've also added in my own thoughts, so the result is essentially a "brain dump," if you will. Be patient, as this is embarrassingly fragmented…
Here are the two overlying theories that I keep coming back to since the first season:
1. Stuck in a time loop, or worm-hole, theory:
· A musician programmed the looking glass code Good Vibrations (Charlie?),
· The ease in which Ben kills his own people (two women in the looking glass station)
· Patchy's refusal to die (loop on fast-forward, lol)
· Losties crashed on Flight 815, Star Streak Next Gen. episode 518 "Cause and Effect" is about how the crew gets stuck in a temporal loop; coincidence? Probably…
· Desmond's tryst as a clairvoyant, not to mention him repeating his past and ending up back on the island (a glitch when the numbers weren't entered in the hatch?) Or perhaps this reset the loop, which is why Des can now predict the future?
· Juliet's shoulder popping out nine times (said while handcuffed to Kate),
· Ben saying he "recently" sacrificed 40 people (Dharma people) although it happened when he was a boy,
· the whispered conversations embedded into the audio of the show,
· Children conceived within the temporal loop are doomed to die. Since the timeline isn't actually moving, aging doesn't happen (also could explain why Richard Alpert looks exactly the same as he did when Ben was a child).
· electromagnetic pulse fluctuations—um, where's Stephan Hawking when you need him, lol
2. Attempt to save humanity theory:
· According to ABC released video last summer, the numbers are supposed to predict the end on humankind, as determined by some mathematician
· Hanso was considering releasing some sort of uber-virus to speed up this process in attempt to discover a cure or vaccination to prevent our extinction
· Perhaps Dharma (the grandfather company of Hanso) looking for way to avoid catastrophe, on the cutting edge of tech. for their time, discover the island and continue their research there (polar bears, Smokey, injections to prevent disease.)
· According to the Hanso website, their fonder put a huge sum of money into finding ways to extend life—they supposedly succeeded in prolonging the life of an orangutan to 100 years and ticking. Does this explain why Richard Albert appears to have tapped into the fountain of youth?
· Recruitment of fertility doctor, Juliet, seems to somehow play into this
· Abduction of the pregnant women…
Other prevalent themes:
· Human behavior--are we predestined to act certain way, or do people change when unknowingly presented with the same situations? The search for redemption
· 7 degrees of separation on steroids—the connections between the characters are mind-blowing! Try writing them all down; I dare you! (Did you notice that Charlie saved Sayid's Nadia from a mugging in the previous episode?)
Fun Facts:
· The obituary Jack is clutching reads:
"The body of John Lantham of New York was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue. Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim's loft. Concerned for tenants' safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room. According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Latham is survived by one teenaged son. Memorial services will be held at the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Home tomorrow evening."
· When Jack pulls up to that funeral home, the name of it is "Hoffs/Drawler." This is an anagram for "Flash Forward."
More questions to ponder:
I read somewhere that John Lantham is the name of a philosopher. Hum, perhaps it is an alias name for one of the people on the island. John Locke, whose namesake is also a philosopher? Coincidence? The person in the obituary possibly commits suicide. Being removed from the island could drive Locke to such drastic measures. Ben is an equally likely candidate for the body in the coffin. This would explain why no one attended his funeral. Although I must say, the coffin looked rather small. Also, it looked as if a copy of the Koran was on the table next to the coffin. This would indicate Sayid.
Who was Kate worried about realizing she had gone to meet Jack? Sawyer/James? Actually, Sawyer was my first guess as the unlucky stiff in coffin. Maybe her parole officer? I'm not buying the baby speculation; after all, an infant wouldn't put fear into her eyes. And why is Kate not in jail? Perhaps some govt. agency pulled some strings after their ordeal in an agreement that she remain quiet about what really happened? Or she's somehow in hiding?
Are their memories real, or implanted?
Where do the Others come from? If they are the original inhabitants of the island, how did they get there? Do any of them age?
Is Jacob the physical manifestation of the island itself?
Does having a strong belief and devotion to the island aid in healing (i.e. the nine lives of both Locke and Mikhail, aka Patchy).
And for heavens sake, what's with the three-toed statue!!!!?????
